AG/RELATED MAJORS SCHOLARSHIP WINDOW NOW OPEN

The Montgomery SWCD is now accepting applications for the David E. Hinton 2024 Scholarship.  Agriculture/Natural Resources (or related major) students attending Austin Peay State University, and a Montgomery resident – DON’T MISS THE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE JUNE 1ST!

This annual scholarship was created in 2002 in memory of David E. Hinton.  Mr. Hinton was a founding board member of the Montgomery County Soil Conservation District in 1944.

The applicant must (1) be enrolled and/or attending Austin Peay State University (2) a Montgomery resident and; (3) seeking completion of a bachelor degree program with a major in an agriculture related field (ex; Ag-Business, Ag- Science, Ag-Communications; Environmental Studies, Pre-Vet and Pre Forestry).

Applicants must complete and submit the following by JUNE 1ST :

  • Scholarship Application
  • minimum of two recommendation forms/letters
  • MOST CURRENT official transcript

The David E. Hinton Scholarship will award $500/semester ($1000 max per year) and is payable directly to the college with the student(s) name as recipient.

The Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will review all applications.

2024 ARBOR DAY

Despite the cold drizzle that blanketed Clarksville, the March 1st event distributed seedlings to approximately 263 Montgomery residents!20240301_101900

White Flowering Dogwood, Sweet Pecan, Persimmon, Bald Cypress, White Oak, Black Walnut, Virginia Pine, Shumard Oak and Overcup Oak were the offered species.

This event was made possible by the City of Clarksville, Montgomery UT Extension and the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District with volunteers from the Clarksville Tree Board and Montgomery County Master Gardeners Association for the beautification and conservation of Clarksville-Montgomery!

“The Tennessee New Farmer Academy is a seven-month certificate program designed for those with an interest in becoming agricultural entrepreneurs.  Ideal candidates for this program include those who are new to agriculture, those who wish to transition into agriculture from another field such as military service or private sector work, or those who are looking for a post-retirement opportunity.

The program focuses on teaching the concepts, providing the information, and facilitating the hands-on experience needed to build solid, viable, and successful agricultural businesses.”
