Johnny Head, Board Chairman, presents Devon Bowles with the 2020 Hinton Scholarship.

Devon Bowles, from Montgomery Central High School, is the latest recipient of the David E. Hinton Scholarship, which was created in 2002 for a qualifying High School Seniors in Montgomery County. Devon has been involved in many District hosted Ag in the Classroom events and competitions as well as studying Agriculture at Montgomery Central. He was an active member of Future Farmers of America (FFA), has competed and placed in numerous career development events such as Land Evaluation and Judging, Mechanics and the Envirothon. During Devon’s time at MCHS, he utilized the school’s on-site farm academy program and organized the group’s participation in the American Kennel Club Retrieve Field Trials. Devon would like to focus on Wildlife Biology while attending Austin Peay State University.

The Montgomery County Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors developed this scholarship in honor of Mr. Hinton’s long time dedication to soil and water conservation. He served on the Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors for forty-eight (48) years. Applicants must be a graduating senior who plans to attend any college in Tennessee and major in an agricultural related field (Ag-Business, Ag Science, Ag-Communications, Environmental Studies, Pre-Vet and Pre-Forestry). The applicant must complete and submit the Scholarship Application, recommendations and a written essay to the Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors. An official High School Transcript of grades should accompany the application.
